Abstract

Taking ovariectomized osteoporosis model rats as the research object, and using serum parameters, bone mineral density (BMD), femoral and uterine tissue morphology as indicators, the study was conducted by continuously administering balsam pear saponin 65, 130, and 260 mg/(kg bw¡¤d) Preventive effect on osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats after 12 weeks. The results showed that compared with the model group, the serum estradiol and Ca2+ levels of rats in the bitter melon saponin medication group were increased, the femoral bone density was increased, and the bone tissue morphology of the proximal femoral metaphysis was improved, while the body weight, uterine mass, and uterine tissue morphology were improved. There was no significant difference from the rats in the model group. Therefore, bitter melon saponins can prevent the formation of osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats.
