Abstract

The seed storage protein loci and genetic variation of 142 durum wheat accessions from 22 countries including the United States, China, Russia and Ethiopia were studied. A total of 37 gliadin bands were detected in the durum wheat (triticumdurumdesf) materials tested, and none of the bands were common to all materials. The polymorphism reached 100%, indicating that durum wheat has abundant gliadin alleles. Mutations. Cluster analysis divided the 142 tested materials into three major categories. The size of the genetic differences among the materials varied in different countries, indicating that the gliadin banding pattern has a certain relationship with geographical origin. A total of 14 subunits and 15 subunit combinations were separated by high molecular weight gluten electrophoresis, but the proportion of high-quality subunits was not high. This may be due to the particularity of durum wheat processing, which has resulted in not many breedings over the years. Changing the frequency of allelic variation in durum wheat high molecular weight gluten subunits promotes the accumulation of high-quality subunits.
