Abstract

Albumin is one of the most abundant proteins in plasma and serves several important functions. Neonatal serum albumin concentration varies greatly with gestational age and postnatal age. Hypoalbuminemia occurs due to reduced synthesis, increased albumin loss, or redistribution into the extravascular space and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality.
