Abstract
Vitamin A deficiency is a severe malnutrition that can lead to many health problems, especially for women and children in poor areas. In order to meet this challenge, Swiss scientist Ingo Potrykus and German scientist Peter Beyer used modern biotechnology to successfully clone the phytoene synthase gene of narcissus and transfer it into the rice endosperm, thus creating a protein that can effectively supplement the vitamin A needed by the human body. “Golden Rice” rich in carotene.
