Abstract

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a treatment method in which photosensitizers are excited by a light source of a specific wavelength and produce cytotoxic substances in the presence of oxygen molecules. It is mainly used for anti-tumor treatment. Currently, the photosensitizers used in clinical applications have limited targeting ability to tumor cells. A hot research direction recently is targeted photosensitizers. Combining the author’s work in this direction over the years and the development of photosensitizer research in recent years, this paper comprehensively explains the targeted photosensitizers with functional peptides and their application in photodynamic therapy. The advantages of peptides as targeting groups were explained, and the biological effects of functional peptides including membrane-permeable peptides, blood vessel-targeting peptides, cell receptor-targeting peptides and other conjugates with photosensitizers were summarized, demonstrating that peptides can achieve targeting of photosensitizers. effect.
