Abstract

The N-terminus of a protein serves as the starting point for synthesis. Its amino acid sequence composition and post-translational modification directly affect the activity, stability and intracellular localization of the protein, regulate intracellular signal transduction, and even determine the fate of these proteins. Systematic research on the N-terminal omics of proteins can not only reveal the important role of the N-terminal region on the entire protein, but also help us deeply understand the role of proteins in various life activities. At the same time, we can achieve high coverage of the proteome and genome. Re-annotation and other aspects also have important value. This article combines our existing work to review the research progress of protein N-terminal omics in recent years, especially some important mass spectrometry-based N-terminal enrichment technologies and methods.
