Abstract

Objective: To study the protective effect of flaxseed oil on streptozocin (STZ)-induced diabetic nephropathy (DN) in rats, and to compare its efficacy with fish oil. Methods: A one-time intraperitoneal injection of STZ was used to establish a rat model of diabetic nephropathy. The experimental rats were divided into a negative control group, a model group, and three linseed oil dosage groups (0.3, 0.6, 0.9 mL/100 g mb). , fish oil group (0.6 mL/100 g mb), to study the effects of flaxseed oil and fish oil on glucose metabolism-related indicators such as fasting blood glucose, glucose tolerance, glycated serum protein, and renal function indicators such as urine output, urine protein, creatinine, and urea nitrogen in rats , as well as the effect on cellular inflammatory factors and oxidative stress; and observe the tissue morphological changes of pancreas and kidney. Results: Compared with the model group, both flaxseed oil and fish oil could significantly reduce the fasting blood glucose value, improve glucose tolerance and glycated serum protein, reduce urine output and urinary protein, and improve renal function in rats with STZ-induced diabetic nephropathy. Reduce the body’s inflammatory response, enhance antioxidant capacity, and significantly increase the expression of glucose transporter 4, insulin in serum, and pyruvate kinase and hexokinase in liver (P£¼0.05 or P£¼0.01). Flaxseed oil can improve the structural damage of pancreas and kidney in DN rats. Conclusion: Both flaxseed oil and fish oil have certain protective effects on STZ-induced DN. Its mechanism of action may be related to the regulation of glucose metabolism, anti-inflammatory ability and antioxidant capacity. Fish oil is better at regulating sugar metabolism, while flaxseed oil is better at protecting kidneys.
