Abstract

Abstract Plant dehydrins (DHNs) are highly hydrophilic, disordered proteins that belong to the second group of proteins that are enriched in late embryonic development and play basic functions in plant response and adaptation to water stress. Dehydrated proteins are usually highly enriched during seed maturation. In addition, vegetative organs that are stressed by salt, moisture, and low temperature also express dehydrated proteins. Dehydrins are divided into five categories according to the type and number of different conserved structures they contain, among which the K segment consisting of 15 amino acid residues is the most conserved. Since the first dehydrins were reported in the 1980s, their important functions during abiotic stress have been extensively studied, but their exact physiological functions remain unclear. Research in recent years has shown that dehydrin may also be involved in biotic stress and play an important role in the JA signaling pathway.
