Abstract

Ribosome-inactivating proteins (RIPs) are a type of A4342 that can remove the SRL region of 28S rRNA in eukaryotic cells, thereby destroying the binding of elongation factors to ribosomes and inhibiting protein biosynthesis in the elongation stage. RIPs are classified into types I, II, and III. ¦Á-momangolin, ¦Â-momangolin, ¦Ã-momangolin, ¦Ä-momangodin, epsilon-momangodin, MAP30, etc., which have been found in bitter melon, all belong to type I RIPs.
