Abstract

Spirulina platensis is a multicellular filamentous nitrogen-fixing blue-green algae that lives in oceans and lakes. It is the earliest primitive lower plant on earth that can use solar energy and inorganic matter to produce organic matter. More than 300 years ago, spirulina was used as food by people in some African countries and North America and Mexico. Research has found that spirulina has high nutritional value, such as rich in protein (more than 60%), 8 kinds of amino acids necessary for the human body, ¦Â-carotene (20 times that of carrots), 8 kinds of vitamins, especially VB12. It has the highest content among known organisms and also contains many macroelements and trace elements necessary for the human body. In addition, spirulina also contains a special compound called cyanobacterial protein (also known as phycoalbumin), which contains about 1 to 3% and has the effects of enhancing human immune function, anti-cancer and anti-radiation.
