Abstract

? Objective: To understand the toxicological safety of chia seeds. Methods: Mouse acute toxicity test and genotoxicity test (ames test, mouse bone marrow polychromatic erythrocyte micronucleus test, mouse sperm abnormality test) were used to study chia seeds. The mouse acute oral toxicity test dose was 22.5 g/kg, observe the death of animals within 14 days after oral administration of the test substance; the ames test sets 5 doses, respectively 0.008, 0.04, 0.20, 1.0 and 5.0 mg per dish (the volume of the test substance per dish is 0.1 ml), and set up spontaneous reversion, solvent control (acetone) and positive control (9-fluorenone, 2-af, nan3, mmc, 1.8-dihydroxyanthraquinium). After inoculation, incubate at 37¡ãC for 48 hours and count. Number of colonies per dish; mouse bone marrow polychromatic erythrocyte micronucleus test and mouse sperm abnormality test are set up in 3 dose groups, respectively 1.875, 3.750 and 7.500g/kg, and a solvent control group (corn oil) is also set up. and the positive control group (cyclophosphamide, 50 mg/kg). The incidence of micronuclei in polychromatic red blood cells in bone marrow smears and the type and corresponding number of sperm abnormalities in sperm specimens were respectively observed. Results: The maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of chia seeds in mice was >22.5g/kg, which is a non-toxic substance; in the ames test, mouse bone marrow polychromatic erythrocyte micronucleus test and mouse sperm abnormality The results in the test were all negative; conclusion: Chia seeds are non-toxic substances and are not genetically toxic.
